Hi

Back in 2006 we tentatively sent out our first newsletter, six years later we're feeling a similar trepidation with what will be our final (ever) culturepool newsletter.

It's difficult to put our incredible culturepool adventure into words, but with the help of Fiona Shaw (Wordscapes) and Michael Snowdon (The Microcosm) we've put together culturepool 'the book' to document the journey, and to say thanks to everyone we've met and worked with.

You can take a look at the electronic version of the book here on the culturepool website. The website will be up for a while, thanks to our wonderful web techies at Made By Bridge.

We're currently looking for funding to get the book published. If we're successful and you'd be interested in purchasing a printed copy, email us at info@culturepool.org.uk and we'll keep you up to date.

It truly has been an amazing experience for the both of us, and we really want you to carry on enjoying Liverpool's culture without us.

Thank you and Goodbye,

Luan & Vinny

Hi all

Come and join us for a cuppa, cake & memories of Edge Hill Station at The Edge Hill Station Archive, an exhibition 181 years in the making. The historic Edge Hill station has been culturepool’s home for the last couple of years and it only seems fitting that we finish our cultural journey there with our friends at Metal, who have put together this amazing archive. This will be our last cultural event before our ‘do’ in January and it would be great if you pop down & share it with us!

The event is FREE, but to help with stocking up the kitchen could you please email booking@culturepool.org.uk or call 0151 236 0796 to let us know you’re coming. Full details below.

Hi all

First the Good News! We still have some discounted tickets left for this Saturday’s Thresholdlite Cinematic Experience @ the CUC (£5 instead of £9) but they’re going fast so please book asap if you’d like to be added to the culturepool guest list. As always, see details below!

And now for the Not-So-Good News... It is with sadness that we are announcing the closure of culturepool. We will be hosting one final cultural event in November at Metal to see the Edge Hill Archive and then a social get together in January before closing.

This has not been an easy decision to make, but we feel it’s time for us to take a step back and concentrate on other things. culturepool has been a hugely fulfilling, enjoyable and fun experience that we have both learnt a great deal from, and we’d like to thank all our members who have helped to make the organisation such a success – THANK YOU!!! Thanks also to the 40+ venues, 200+ artists and performers, and numerous organisations that we have worked with over the years for your continued support.

We will be releasing more details about our final events over the next couple of weeks, but in the meantime we hope to see you @ the CUC on Saturday!

Best wishes

Unfortunately the culturepool event on Saturday 17th September, culturepool @ Metal: Still, has been cancelled.

The Still exhibition will be open on Saturday from 12pm until 4pm should you wish to visit but there will be no artist talk. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but there will be refreshments available to any culturepoolers who do go along on Saturday!

We are looking forward to our next event at the Capstone Theatre to see Olivia Moore’s Unfurl on Tuesday 4th October @ 7.30pm, and hope to see you there!

Hi,

Sorry just quick correction about our October event Olivia Moore’s Unfurl, which is happening on the 4th October not the 14th October as stated in the previous email.

We hope everyone enjoyed meeting the cast and crew of Romeo & Juliet after their stunning performance at St George’s Hall concert hall on Tuesday.

Next, on Sat 17th September, 1pm we’re back at the oldest passenger railway station in the world for STILL: Conflict, Conservation, and Contemplation, an exhibition exploring the future of water and what happens when it becomes as important a commodity as oil. The artists will also be around for a chat and a brew.

Please book your FREE place by emailing booking@culturepool.org.uk so that we can organise the refreshments. Please send your name, number of tickets and a contact number to confirm booking. More details below.

Hi Y’All

There maybe rumblings of rain on Saturday but do not despair! culturepool and Above The Beaten Track are weather-proof. One of the great things about a venue like The Bluecoat, is that we can move the outside to the inside. So if there are some spits and spots of rain around tomorrow (or even torrential, like now!) you can still enjoy all that Honky Tonky has to offer in the nice and dry performance space.

Come rain or shine, culturepool’s stage will be opened by S J Downes at 1pm, and our set will feature:

Tom George
Andy Steele
The Science of the Lamps
The Trestles

Inside or out it’s gonna be a good ol’ party and it’s FREE! See below for full details.

This isn’t just a party to mark five years of culturepool, it’s also a celebration of all that’s good about grass roots organisations, artists, performers and musicians working together in a positive and inclusive way.

But above all… it’s a good ol’ party and it’s FREE! See below for full details.

After a lovely get together at Metal, Edge Hill Station on Saturday, we can’t wait to finish 2010 with a very Christmassy event.

As culturepool is planning to take an extended break in the New Year, it would be fab to catch up with everyone before Christmas and we think our next event could be a great excuse.

Comedian and star of Radio 4’s Count Arthur Strong, Terry Titter will be joining culturepool for a drink and a chat after his Christmas comedy show on Wednesday 15th December @ The Unity Theatre, Liverpool.

Hi

Just a quick reminder about our visit to the Royal Court Theatre to watch the revival of the musical Lennon, on Saturday 6th November @ 2pm.

As the show celebrates John Lennon’s life and his music, we’re really excited that music historian and writer Colin Hall will be along. Colin, who is also the custodian of John Lennon’s childhood home Mendips, will be joining culturepool and the cast for a chat after the performance. Tickets are only £9 with culturepool. See below for booking details.

Hi

We’ve been busy organising our 2010 Year of Health & Wellbeing project, Building On What We’ve Got, which, inspired by last year’s successful Scouse Soul Stew, encourages people to discover and participate in their local art & cultural events.

Over the next couple of months we’ll be getting in some art, comedy and a culturepool first: telly! We’re just finalising all the deets but will let you know more soon.

So in the meantime, come and join us to see Lennon on Saturday 6th November at The Royal Court. Returning to Liverpool after nearly 30 years, and directed by Bob Eaton who originally penned the show in 1981, Lennon celebrates the life of John Lennon in the year that would have seen his 70th birthday. See below for further details.

The fabulous weather definitely contributed to a very special 4th Birthday party at The Bluecoat, but we really have to thank everyone involved including Mellowtone, Claire Mooney, Tom George, Sensorites, Jez Wing, Dan Wilson, John ‘The Spoons’ and Jonnie O’Hare, and especially everyone who attended and added to Above The Beaten Tracks’ amazing atmosphere (and drank the bar dry!). Roll on 2011.

When culturepool sprung into life in 2006, one of our first forays into the art world was with a young artist from Warrington called Chris Boyd as part of the years Independents Biennial. Back then Chris was not long out of Uni but has since continued to build an impressive reputation and résumé. So four years on we jumped at the chance to join Chris again on his return to Liverpool. Full details below.

Hi,

It’s been a little while since our last event at The Liverpool Art Prize, but we wanted to thank all the artists for taking their time to talk about their art and to congratulate artists David Jacques and James Quin.

And just a quick reminder about culturepool’s party this Saturday (14th August) at 2pm at The Bluecoat. Join us and celebrate culturepool’s 4th birthday as part of Above The Beaten Track festival with the guys from Mellowtone music. As usual it’s a chance to see some some great local acts and it’s all FREE. Even the rain won’t stop us, as the whole festival will continue inside if it has to. See below for full details.

Hi,

We just heard about this fab event and thought there’s no way we can miss it…

Instead of staying in when the election results start coming in this Thursday 6th May, why not join us for a great night of cabaret, satire and comedy presented by the Riders of the Ruby Moon and performed by over 20 local artists reacting to the general election live.

Patrick Dineen (Composer King Cotton; Liverpool Empire & 08 People’s Opening), Artistic Director of Riders of the Ruby Moon says it all…

“Liverpool is a political city, this is a very important election, which promises to be a dramatic and theatrical experience. We wanted to create an evening of cabaret acts and live broadcast of the election for the people of Liverpool as it has never been done before! It’s a unique one off!”

We’ve never done anything like this before but we can’t think of a more inventive way to spend a general election. See below for full details…

We’re very excited about the start of the International Write Now Festival, Liverpool’s first annual One Act Play Festival on Friday 26th March. As well as being supporters of the festival, culturepool went a long to the press night on the 4th March with a group of culturepool members to choose which plays we should watch.

It was difficult for the group to choose just one, so we’re going to see three; The Dressmaker’s Gift, Pippin Hal and Under My Skin, which are all very different and interesting plays. So we’ve decided to do all three! With each of the three plays we’ve organised a post-show chat with the writer and cast and a reduced ticket cost for every single performance of all eight plays in the festival for culturepool members! Check out the Festival Brochure for the full schedule.

We hoping this will be the start of successful festival promoting new writing in Liverpool and we’d love if you’d join us, starting next Sunday 28th at 5.30pm. See below for more details.
