Abandon Normal Devices (AND) is a new festival that celebrates the best in new cinema and media art in the Northwest and, with the debut festival happening in Liverpool next week, we thought we’d take a look-see. And then we heard that the renowned American performance artist Carolee Schneemann was giving a live performance of her lecture Mysteries of the Iconographies in the Tate gallery (See visitor info) on the evening of Thursday 24th September @ 6-7.30pm, we definitely wanted to get involved.
Even though the performance and Q&A with the artist is officially sold out, we’ve managed to wangle a small allocation of tickets for culturepool. To reserve your ticket(s) please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with your name, contact phone number and the number of tickets you require (Max 2 per person). Tickets are FREE!
If you don’t manage to get a ticket, you can still see the performance via video link in the main foyer of the Tate. The 24th is also Liverpool’s annual Long Night when gallery’s and arts centres are open later than usual. It’s a great chance to check out many of the special events happening across the city and we’ll also be popping along to some of the other events, none of which will cost you a penny!
After the Tate we’ll be off for a FREE behind the scenes tour of the ‘world’s most daring piece of public art’, Richard Wilson’s ‘Turning the Place Over’ at Moorfields (the old Yates pub with the large revolving wall). Open until 9pm.
Then after 8pm The Walker Gallery is offering one FREE drink (hot, cold or alcoholic!*) for culturepool members, just show this email at the Cafébar. There’s also a night of entertainment with atmospheric DJ sets, live music and poetry. The new Bridget Riley exhibition: Flashback is open from 8pm, and there’s an opportunity to take part in tours/talks of Pre-Raphaelites, Liverpool cityscape and John Moores Prizewinners.
This could be followed by a visit to the Wolstenholme Projects gallery, 11 Wolstenholme Sq, Liverpool L1 4AQ to see the ‘Normal service will resume’ exhibition before enjoying some live music from 9.30pm until late.
